about the cheetah
The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre focuses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable or endangered animals. Cheetah Conservation is one of our core disciplines.

We are actively involved in the breeding of endangered, vulnerable or rare animal species; the education of learners, students and the general public in conservation and conservation activities; eco-tourism; the release and establishment of captive-bred cheetahs back into the wild; the treatment and rehabilitation of wild animals that are brought to the Centre. The HESC also offers an intensive, hands-on Student's Programme to conservation and adventure enthusiasts from around the world. Click here to read more..... or download the Students brochure.

It is with deep regret that we announce the untimely passing of Flip Schoeman.

Flip worked with the HESC for many years, and was intrinsically involved in  the Centre's successful application for CITES accreditation, as well as the blueprint for the Centre through its management plan.

His dedication will be sorely missed. He took great pride in his work, and would not associate himself with outcomes which were not perfect, accurate and complete.

Flip did not leave any family members, and bequeathed 25% of his estate to the HESC.

He will remain in our memories, and will forever be a part of the organisation through his legacy and contribution.

Our thoughts are with Flip now. He will be sorely missed.

From,
Lente Roode and the HESC Team
